Dear Models, Too Thin? It’s Possible!
By: Danielle Torella the Body Art Fashionista
Ever look at a fashion ad and think, “If she’s that thin, how is it going to look on me?” Well, you’re not alone. There seems to be an epidemic of too-skinny models, and at what cost? Many cite the hundreds of young girls and women suffering from poor body image, eating disorders, and even depression. There has been much debate on the topic of whether or not laws should be passed banning designers and photographers from choosing only sickly thin models. Israel has established such a law, where a model’s body mass index (BMI) can be no less than…

Sweatpants Girl!
By: Danielle Torella
The holidays are here and everyone is out and about shopping for their loves ones, especially at the malls. I am one of those frequent mall-goers no matter the time of year. But one thing that completely irks me while being out and about, enjoying the holiday cheer, is young women and teens wearing sweatpants. Victoria’s Secret sweats, no less. No beef with VS or with their sweats–I personally don’t own any because I’m not about to pay $50 for a pair of sweatpants.
Anywho… what ever happened to girls and young women wanting to dress up a little? Is it so hard to brush your hair instead of pulling it to the top of your head in a straggly mess?

Kids And Ink
By Danielle Torella the Body Art Fashionista
Recently it seems like more and more underage kids are getting inked. Here in New York state, the legal age to get tattooed is 18 years old, even if you are a minor and mommy or daddy are okay with it. If a shop were to ink a person under the age of 18, those responsible for said ink could face jail time and receive a misdemeanor. That’s not to say that other states don’t allow a guardian’s signature for, say, someone who is 16 or 17 to get tattoo. In Alabama a 14-year-old can get inked with parental permission! What would have to be wrong with a parent who’s even thinking about allowing this?!

Getting the Finger… Tattooed
By: Danielle Torella The Body Art Fashionista
Have you ever gotten the finger? No, not the form of verbal abuse known as flipping the bird; I’m talking about the growing popularity of finger tattoos. But I’m not talking about your run of the mill knuckle tattoos that read “rebel” “love hate”–I’m referring to the subtle inner-finger ink.
I’m sure you’ve seen a photo of someone online or even someone you know with a tattoo on their finger. One finger tattoo design has skyrocketed in popularity: the mustache…

Femininity and Tattoos
By: Danielle Torella the Body Art Fashion
We have been brought up to believe that a feminine woman is elegant, proper and well composed. What about women who are adorned with tattoos? No matter the number of tattoos, is a woman less feminine because of her choice to decorate her body? And should she be subjected to stereotyping?
As a young woman with many tattoos myself, I wondered what other tattooed women thought about the subject. I was lucky enough to have interviewed three very strong, beautiful and tattooed ladies I know and love, each of them describing their tattoos, their stories and their view on femininity and tattoos.
What does being feminine mean to you?….

Stars Have More Ink Than You Think!
By: Danielle Torella the Body Art Fashionista
One way or another, we always discover when celebrities have been inked. Sometimes it’s as if the paparazzi have crept into the dressing rooms in order to find the marks before anyone else knew they were there.
We all know about Angelina Jolie’s tattoo dramas, between her dragon cover-up of “Billy-Bob”, to replacing the scripture on her shoulder with the coordinates of where her children were born. There’s even a large, traditional, hand-poked tiger on her lower back. While I am not her biggest fan, I take notice when the entertainment business reports on her or anyone’s ink.

Bro needs to Go
By: John Parry
As college freshmen finish settling in and start making their first impressions on campuses across the country, it’s hard to miss the proliferation of “bro” culture among young men. In high school I played lacrosse, so I’m quite familiar with the attire of your average bro–lax pinnies, continuously reversed baseball caps, and flip-flops. That stuff has to go….

Don’t Judge Pop Culture Ink
By: Danielle Torella the Body Art Fashionista
Tattoos today are embraced just as often as they are ridiculed. You’ve got your lovers and your haters, and it seems everyone has an opinion about your ink, yet you’re not supposed to comment on theirs or their lack thereof. Either way you look at it, tattoos are gaining in popularity–and pop culture is shaping a new genre of tattoos….

Pantless Women Running Rampant
By Sabrina McGettigan
No, women are not walking around naked, but they are not wearing pants either because LEGGINGS ARE NOT PANTS! I can’t stress that point enough. Leggings are meant to be worn under a dress or a long shirt. They are not a substitute for pants.
Everywhere I turn I am confronted by someone’s butt. There is a saying to the effect that you can tell a lot about a person by their clothing. Well, for all you women wearing leggings as pants, I can tell a lot about you. I can see the contour of your butt, every nook, cranny, dimple, and roll and usually I can even tell what type of underwear you are wearing. Sometimes in the light I can even narrow it down to what color underwear you are wearing….
