As of late there has been an explosion of love stories on the market. Some of the biggest fan draws have been Twilight and Fifty Shades of Grey; however, E.L. James is not the only one who should get some recognition. Sylvain Reynard, author of Gabriel’s Inferno and Gabriel’s Rapture, is a very talented writer and he agreed to sit down and answer some questions for me.

Reynard’s series is about a sexy professor and his relationship with a student. It’s a love story that is just beautiful.

Writing!

By: J.B McGee Author of the This trilogy

If you’re reading this it’s because you are either writing a book or you’re thinking about writing one. I suppose there is also an off chance that you’re here because you just like to read what I write, or you’re bored. But my money is on the former. Hopefully, you’ve read the first part of this series on pre-writing because I’m going to pick up where I left off with that article. You’ve done your planning. You have a pretty good idea about the setting, plot, and characters of your story. This is all provided you aren’t ADHD like me and haven’t already changed your mind a thousand times! Now what?

What is the hardest part of writing a book? Starting it! You’ve done all your brainstorming and pre-writing activities.

The Scoop on ‘Broken’ by J.B McGee

By: Kayla Ferguson

Since its placement on the New York Times Best Seller List, 50 Shades of Grey has been the gold standard for any erotic fictional novel attempting to follow it. Filled with fantasy, romance, sex and many things taboo, any novel would be brave to follow in its footsteps.

Broken, written by J. B. McGee, is a much shorter attempt at a love centered, semi-erotic novella. Although Broken is a memorable addition to your bookshelf, it needs a bit more tender loving care to compete with a heavyweight like E. L. James.

How to Self-Publish : Step One

By: J.B. McGee, author of This trilogy

During the Olympics, I heard that Michael Phelps has ADHD and they believe that a large part of his success comes from his “disability”, because people with ADHD have the ability to hyper-focus on a single task, usually one that is challenging. I have severe ADHD and anyone who knows anything about that disease can tell you that I am impulsive and, like Phelps, I have the ability to hyper-focus on challenging tasks. Couple that with my perfectionist personality and my ability to tell long, drawn out stories, and I thought for sure that writing a book would be a piece of cake, and writing the story was. But I had no clue that writing the story was just one small part of becoming a successful self-published author.

I know it may seem cliché, but Fifty Shades of Grey changed my life. I fell in love with a whole new genre of literature I would have never ordinarily read.

Mr. and Mrs. Grey; a romance with spice
By: Chelsea Callahan

If you have not read Fifty Shades Freed yet, or have not finished Fifty Shades Darker, do not read this article. Spoilers hide within the text below.
The Fifty Shades Series is in essence a life, living and breathing, between your finger tips.

When you begin reading the Fifty Shades of Grey, you’re stunned by the sexual nature of the book, and stunned even more so by how willing you find yourself submitting to the dark world of Christian Grey. His tastes are far from innocent, and far from socially acceptable, but yet somehow, every reader falls prey to the seduction. He is not only wrangling in Anastasia Steele, and capturing her heart, but every single woman reading the pages has also fallen at his feet….

Bite Into Fifty Shades Darker
By Chelsea Callahan

It is the wet dream of most women on this planet to fall in love with a ‘bad boy’ and have him love you enough to change, to be good for you. The combination of danger, love, and possible redemption is like crack to the female population. The good girls fighting for the bad boys wish they too had the courage to be bad too.

Why do we feel the need to act this way? Could it be that we all have a little Christian Grey in us? Wanting to Dominate and care for the other person in every way, secretly wishing we had the power to enforce rules like those he lays out in book 1. It seems very likely after reading Fifty Shades of Grey and maybe even more so now….

Steampunk: a Genre and a Culture

By: Chelsea Callahan

Do the words Steam Punk mean anything to you? Well actually it should be one word Steampunk, and trying to define as it turns out is a hard thing to do.  It is not just one thing; it has developed into a cultural movement.

According to Steampunk.com at its roots the word leads us to a literary subgenre that is poorly defined. There are many different ways to put to together a “steampunk” literary piece.  It seems that as long as there is a taste of Victorian class it falls into the genre…

The Mortal Instruments Series Rave!
By Chelsea Callahan

Have you ever walked the isles of books in Target? If you’ve passed or paused at the teen section you’ve probably seen or glanced over titles like City of Bones, or more recently City of Fallen Angels and City of Lost Souls. These are only three titles of Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments Series. I can’t exactly remember a time before I read City of Bones, the first book in the series. I don’t know what made me pick it up and put it in my cart but I did…..

The Reads of a Life Time

By Sabrina McGettigan

Before I rattle off the top ten classic novels that I think you should read, I’d like to offer my credentials. I don’t presume to have read all the classics, but I have read a lot of them. In middle school I was sick of the novels that were agreed upon for the curriculum. They were unchallenging and redundant (I’m pretty sure I read The Outsiders about five times). My mother was disappointed with the school reading list too, so she made me a list of her own to start reading and I haven’t stopped since.

1. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte…

The Lucky One Lives and Breathes

By Chelsea Callahan

On the self sits a book.  From where you’re sitting you can see the tan rectangle where the title sits on its spine, you don’t even have to read the words to know what book it is. Its cover is blue like the night sky. In fact there is a shooting star right below the box where the title rests on the front cover.  A dark tree looms on the right side, taking up much of the space, making the reader feel small, just thinking of how large the tree must actually be.  In the lower left hand corner there is a Ferris wheel, tempting dusty memories out of their nooks and crannies…..
