Due to the growing excitement over the upcoming release of the film Beautiful Creatures, based on the novel by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, we here at Fire & Ice thought it was about time for us to let you in on the secret. Beautiful Creatures is the fabulous first installment of a new hit series that we here at Fire & Ice are officially in love with.
This story, this world—it’s unlike anything we’ve ever read. Stohl and Garcia have created a dual reality that is both dark and beautiful, a world that every reader will be dying to discover. It’s nearly impossible to stop reading until you’ve devoured every page. Fans of the Mortal Instruments series or the Twilight series will love this book. It has so much to offer, and we can’t stop raving about it. The entire world is waiting to see this story on the big screen, and so are we.
But like any avid reader, you need to sink your teeth into the book eventually. Those of you who haven’t read it yet can keep reading; we promise we won’t reveal anything that you couldn’t learn from seeing the movie trailer.
In the first few pages of this wonderful and exciting tale, Ethan Wate, a Southern boy from Gatlin, tells us that something has changed his life. He tells us that he couldn’t have been more wrong in predicting what his next year at school would be like.
“There was a curse, there was a girl. And in there end, there was a grave. I never even saw it coming.”
His words are haunting and enticing; they are the first hook that draws you in long enough to meet our new favorite characters.
Ethan Wate is part of Gatlin even though he wants out. Or at least he did, until the new girl showed up at school. Her name is Lena Duchannes, and together these two will embark on an adventure neither one of them could have ever predicted.
In the second trailer, which was just released worldwide, Ethan asks Lena if she’s a witch, and she says they prefer the term “Caster.” This may sound like a case of semantics to a new reader, but when you dive into this story you learn that Casters are kickass. There is no other way to put it. Their powers are all unique, but they are wicked-cool.
Learning your girlfriend and her family are magical casters may not seem like a huge problem, but Lena comes with more baggage than that. Ethan is faced with a burden he may not be able to handle. Lena is about to turn sixteen and on her sixteenth birthday she has to make a choice.
Find out what and why by reading the book!
Go pick up this book in your local store—you won’t be disappointed.
We give this first installment of the Beautiful Creatures series 5 out of 5 stars.
Also don’t forget to keep an eye out in movie theaters. Beautiful Creatures is slated for release in 2013. Rumors have already begun amassing that this movie may have the cojones to compete with the Twilight series, and some go so far as to say it will be even more popular than Meyer’s goldmine.
It’s up to you decide.
